IFMGA Mountain Guide
Paul Guerra is an IFMGA-certified mountain guide from Quito, Ecuador, who turned his lifelong passion for the mountains into a career in 2006 and also holds a WFR (Wilderness First Responder) certification. He has guided major expeditions across the Andes, including Aconcagua, Ecuador's volcanoes, the Cordillera Blanca in Peru, and the Cordillera Real in Bolivia, as well as Denali in Alaska, the Alps in Europe, and Ama Dablam and Everest in the Himalaya. He is a member of ASEGUIM (the Ecuadorian Mountain Guide Association) and is based in Quito, where he continues to lead expeditions worldwide.
Paul Guerra grew up in Quito, Ecuador, a city ringed by towering volcanoes that became a constant source of inspiration from childhood onward. His earliest experiences in the mountains came alongside his family, climbing various peaks together before he realized that mountaineering wasn’t just a passion, it was a way of life he wanted to fully embrace.
Eager to gain more experience, connect with other adventurers, and push himself on increasingly demanding terrain, Paul joined a mountaineering club as a young man. In 2006, he turned that passion into a profession, training to become a certified mountain guide. He is now certified by the IFMGA/UIAGM (International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations) and holds a WFR (Wilderness First Responder) certification, and he is a member of ASEGUIM, the Ecuadorian Mountain Guide Association.
Over the course of his career, Paul has had the privilege of guiding expeditions on some of the most iconic peaks in the world. One of the standout milestones came in 2024, when he guided his first expedition on Mount Everest, the tallest mountain on Earth, an experience that demanded careful preparation, resilience, and strong teamwork. He has also guided on Ama Dablam in Nepal, a striking and technically demanding peak that captures the majesty and difficulty the Himalaya are known for.
His experience runs deep throughout the Andes as well, where he has guided on Aconcagua, the highest peak in the Americas, as well as the Cordillera Blanca in Peru, the Cordillera Real in Bolivia, and the volcanoes of his home country of Ecuador, including Cotopaxi, Chimborazo, and Cayambe. In North America, he has led expeditions on Denali in Alaska, and in Europe he has guided throughout the Alps of Switzerland, Italy, Austria, and Germany, sharing the unique beauty and challenge of each of these ranges.
For Paul, what matters most isn’t just reaching the summit, it’s being part of his clients’ journeys and helping them turn their dreams into reality. He sees himself as the bridge that makes those achievements possible, and it’s that connection and teamwork with the people he guides that makes his work as a mountain guide so meaningful to him. Based in Quito, Paul continues to lead expeditions across South America and beyond, bringing decades of experience, calm leadership, and a deep respect for the mountains to every climb.
