The Orizaba Peak Performance Ascent is a focused, high-altitude climb designed to maximize your performance in just one week.This expedition combines efficient acclimatization, expert instruction, and a classic glacier ascent on Mexico’s highest peak — Pico de Orizaba (18,491 ft).
Our small-team approach ensures personal attention, seamless logistics, and strong safety margins throughout the climb. Led by IFMGA-certified guides, this program is ideal for motivated climbers training for larger expeditions such as Aconcagua or Everest.
The Orizaba Peak Performance Ascent combines Mexico’s most iconic mountains and cultural highlights into one efficient, high-altitude week. Starting in Mexico City (7,382 ft), climbers explore the ancient pyramids of Teotihuacan and the colorful colonial city of Tlaxcala before settling into the historic Hacienda Santa Bárbara. From there, the team makes an acclimatization climb of La Malinche (14,646 ft) — the perfect warm-up for Orizaba.
Next, the expedition travels east to Zoapan and continues by 4WD to Orizaba Base Camp (14,010 ft) to prepare for the ascent of Pico de Orizaba (18,491 ft), North America’s third-highest peak. After a rewarding summit day via the Jamapa Glacier Route, the journey concludes in Puebla, celebrating with world-famous cuisine before returning to Mexico City.
For climbers with additional time, a cultural or Iztaccíhuatl Extension offers extra acclimatization and a second summit — the perfect way to deepen your Mexican mountain experience.

Arrive in Mexico City, meet your guide, and transfer to your hotel for the team briefing and welcome dinner.
Travel east, visiting the ancient pyramids of Teotihuacan and exploring the historic city of Tlaxcala before arriving at Hacienda Santa Bárbara.
Climb La Malinche, a non-technical acclimatization climb that offers incredible panoramic views. Return to the hacienda to rest and prepare for Orizaba.
Drive to Zoapan village and continue by 4WD to Orizaba Base Camp (Piedra Grande Hut). Gear organization, acclimatization hike, and rest.
Optional hike to High Camp for additional acclimatization and glacier route review. Return to Base Camp to rest before summit day.
Early alpine start to ascend the Jamapa Glacier Route to the summit of Mexico’s highest peak. Celebrate and descend, then transfer to Puebla for dinner and overnight.
Do I need previous glacier experience?
Yes. You should be familiar with basic crampon and ice axe use. This climb is an excellent progression from introductory alpine climbs or mountaineering schools.
How fit do I need to be?
Climbers must be in excellent physical shape and prepared for long summit days at altitude. Consistent endurance and strength training are essential.
Can I join as a solo climber?
Yes. You may join an open group or request private dates.
Is this a good preparation for higher mountains?
Absolutely. Orizaba is one of the best high-altitude training climbs for Aconcagua, Cotopaxi, or Everest.
Where do we stay?
We use comfortable hotels and mountain lodges in Mexico City, Tlaxcala, and Puebla, along with rustic mountain huts during the ascent.
